Asamoah Gyan arrives at Sunderland ahead of his £12m transfer from Rennes

Striker set to join Steve Bruce's side...

Asamoah Gyan has arrived at Sunderland to finalise his move from French side Rennes.

The striker scored three goals for Ghana during their World Cup campaign in South Africa and impressed with a series of influential performances. He scored 13 goals in 27 games in Ligue 1 last season.

The deal is believed to be in the region of £12 million for the 24-year-old, who is due to complete his medical and agree on personal terms on Tuesday.

Sunderland have already strengthened their striking options this summer with a loan move for Manchester United's Danny Welbeck, but a long-term injury to Fraizer Campbell along with the £8m exit of Kenwyne Jones to Stoke City has led manager Steve Bruce to make a splash in the transfer market

Once Gyan's signing is formally completed, young striker Martyn Waghorn is widely expected to complete a £2m switch to Championship side Leicester City, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell last term.
